To unlock the Challenge Mode, you have to have the 'Wily Program'; you'll need to beat Dr. Wily's Chapter 3 battle in order to gain the item and thus gain access to the Challenge Missions and Endless Attack.

@Toast : Ah, I understand. Those boosts are determined by whoever originally unlocked that Robot Master, so as of now, there is no way to change who the original owner of the robot is once you've made the unlock. Would that be something being worth changing?

@Soren : Stars? Once you've progressed far enough, you'll unlock a Starforce chapter; collecting elemental stars will make the stats of your robots stronger and stronger, with the most elementally plentiful types making RMs 30x as strong as their base stats! That's why you may see a discrepancy between the stats of your team and the stats of top players on the leaderboard. That being said, there's so many stars to collect and collecting all of them doesn't award you much beyond your own satisfaction, so you definitely don't have to collect all of them. If you lean only towards Cutter robots, for example, you may just want to collect stars of that type if you really just want them to have extraordinary boosts. It's certainly not a necessary aspect of the game, so you can feel free to collect as many or as little as you so choose.

@masterX : Hi,

I understand many certainly look forward to new content updates, such as new playable robot masters as was made clear in this thread, but at the moment we have nothing further to say; our main and only programmer and project lead has been going through some changes in the work environment, and as such hasn't had the available time to work on new content updates at his leisure. I've described it the same way many times before, but Prototype is at heart a passion project, and while it's satisfying to bring out new content and see players appreciate our work, passion projects can never be prioritized over our own work-life balance. I understand that it may not be exactly what everyone wants to hear, but we'd like to ask the community to give us some further time. We've never liked working under deadlines or constraints, so at the moment, please consider us under a bit of a break for now >_> Nonetheless, I'd like to thank our community so far for being as patient as they have been; your diligence has not gone unappreciated.

Though, in other ways, while I lack the skillset to create new abilities and features, I have been adding some new visual content to the best of my abilities. For example, as a late Halloween bonus, Pirate Man's sprites have been finished and can now be fought against in the game! I understand he's not playable and that may not be as exciting for everyone, but it's something and means that every Robot Master from 1 through 10 are now all represented in some form. I'll do my best to have more Robot Master revamps done as well to help make the wait more bearable!

@ShadowVictor75 : .... 228 waves? And here I was thinking your previous record of 160 was downright unbeatable! Especially when the enemies are able to get up so high in their level -- you gotta give us a little hint on how you're able to do this stuff so well >_>

@Mello Man : That being said, 92 rounds is no laughing matter either! It's far and away one of the best scores among the entire community, so congratulations on your performance nonetheless!
(It'd be really cool if one could sort the leaderboard by a player's Endless Attack record, wouldn't it?)

@Soren : Oil Man's scarf alt is a reference to his Archie Comics look, which forgoes the large lips in favor of covering them up with a longer scarf

@ShadowVictor75 : I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed seeing Pirate Man! That's the fun of stealth updates, of course. I wasn't aware Pirate Man had any major fans out there, but I'm glad to hear from his demographic that I did alright with his sheet! Unfortunately the site's been having issues lately in performance, but I hope everyone gets a chance to scan him regardless!

1. You can find the Wire Adaptor by jumping into a spike pit directly following a whale subboss, in Dive Man's stage
2. Electric Spark
3. Agile
4. Spring Man's stage, when you break a wall with a spring punch box
5. Bass? Have a pet? Of course not; Everyone knows Bass is Treble's pet. Nice trick question
6. Elec Man's stage, using the Super Arm
7. Neon Tiger
8. Morph Moth's stage, as an armor piece.
9. I should definitely know this; green, yellow, blue, yellow, red, pink, and black-grey astro-man
10. Sunstar

(For reference, Buddy's list is based around the top rumors right now; Ryu's been talked about on VGBoards, lot of speculation towards Reimu based on some music leaks, and someone probably mentioned Crash in a weight-watchers forum or something so that's automatically holy gospel)

At least according to Vergeben (Smash Leaker Extraordinaire), we aren't gonna get Ryu Hayubusa. At least, not yet.
[Vergeben's account)

He's pretty on the money so far, so if we're using leaks as evidence, I feel certain enough that we unfortunately won't be getting him in all his NES glory. Reimu, on the other hand, would been completely out of the blue and would... definitely mystify me lol. I genuinely don't think it's out of Sakurai's range of possibilities at this point, but it's not a possibility I'm looking forward to; I'd be way more excited to hear any Touhou music than any of the anime girl characters I really know nothing about. But like with Joker and Hero, while I may not be excited for their respective series, I'd be glad to see other people get excited! And no matter what, I've been super-satsified satisfied with the playstyles of the new characters, so I'm sure Sakurai will satisfy me yet again. Besides, Touhou's like a Bullet Hell game, right? That'd be interesting?

All that being said, CRASH IN SMASH BABY CHOO CHOO

The MMRPG Prototype Team unfortunately does not quite understand. You're only up to MM1 in your initial thread, which means you'd have to make dozens of threads just to cover the whole series... which would be way too much. While it's not as much as a thread's character limit, I'd advocate that you just continue posting under your initial thread, which should still offer you a decent amount of space while keeping it all to one thread. In this regard, as long as you're posting new sets of alts, I'd consider it fine if you happen to double-post in your original thread. To save on character limit, you can also choose to forego the formatting and not wrap your alt ideas in [color brackets], which should save you so so so many characters.

@Toast : So there's two very simple ways you can do this.

1: Simply drag and hold on the mugshot of a Robot Master in the 'Robots' tab, and then drag their mugshot into the doctor you wish to change them into! This is the insanely simple path, though I believe this is only support on desktop (so your computer, PC, Laptop, and preferably on Google Chrome)

2: If you find the above doesn't work at all, click on a robot, look at their information, and you should see an option labeled 'Player'; click on the doctor option, and it should let you manually choose which doctor owns that robot.

Like so

@RageSwitch : Cold Steel was a band secretly formed by Dr. Wily in the Ruby-Spears cartoon, the members being Spark Man, Gemini Man, and Gyro Man, and they played music that would enslave the population into going to Mt. Shasta for reasons I honestly don't remember.

Yes, that was a real episode

@RDash75 : The elusive time-traveler Quint can be found in a couple of odd places, but where you'll want to look for him is in the 'Starfield' bonus chapter. He can surprisingly invade you after you claim your victory (well, not so surprisingly now that I've said it...), though he's definitely not an easy foe with his powered-up stats. Since he appears randomly he can sorta be hard to find, but a big give-away is to take note of the description of the mission; if it's followed up by the text "Let's go!", that's a sure bet that you're likely to encounter Quint in that mission.

Let's go!

When it comes to celebrating, you should really be using this thread. This universal celebration thread is used when you want to tell the Community something you've achieved or are proud of, in-game or not. When you make a thread, consider if it's a topic that others can respond to and make a detailed discussion out of; a thread centered on yourself about beating one player out of thousands isn't really worth a thread. As such, I'll be locking this thread before the day is done.

But congrats on the well-fought victory?

It's certainly a potential path! One of the larger problems is finding the appropriate soundfont, but I believe there was an FX repository site linked to us so many years ago... I don't know how hard it is to program specific audio cues to occur, given our amount of abilities it is a lot to go back to, but my larger concern is would people find that annoying? It works for the original NES titles, but would you want to hear blips and blops every 5 seconds? How would this affect our message speed options? If the audio cues were perhaps toggleable like the music is, that'd be universally more accepted, right? If anyone has any thoughts on the subject, let me know; it's something definitely worth discussing with the broader public and the other members of the MMRPG staff, I think.

EDIT: This was the specific site we were referred to

Yep, that is... indeed what all those mean! Great job!

I don't have a definitive Top 10, but these are just 10 quotes in no particular order that stick with me in regards to their pacing, punchline, and effectiveness:

Knight Man knight-man
"Alas... they have killed me, Doctor!"
This line plays off of a line by Macduff's son in the play "Macbeth", where upon being stabbed he cries out, "He has killed me, Mother!" I had to unfortunately change a bit of the line structure because not every robot who will beat Knight Man will always be male, but I think it reads humorously. Mentioning death in any quote is a little risque, but I try to excuse it as Knight Man being overdramatic.

Blade Man blade-man
"Ack! Foiled again!"
Simple and to the point, Blade Man speaking in the tone of a mustache-twirling villain of the week is just a fun characterization. 'Nuff said.

Blast Man
"My last blast.... THAT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!"
Quotes where a Robot Master don't express disappointment, and furthermore, happy by the opponent's performance is few and far between. It's charming that Blast Man, even in defeat, recognizes that the fight was still freaking cool!

Tundra Man
"Shattered are my dreams... but it made for a wondrous grand finale!"
The same idea as Blast Man. Even when losing, it's a little heart-warming to see Tundra Man recognize your victory as beautiful!

Frost Man frost-man
"DAT HURT! FROST MAN ONLY PAWN... IN GAME OF LIFE!"
It's a little long so the execution is rough, but it's a combination of Frost Man's actual lines in 8 and a line uttered by the dimwitted Mungo in the film, "Blazing Saddles".

Bubble Man bubble-man
"Welp, I'm sure the bubbles will work next time, Bubble Man...."
It's a tad bit meta, but I can enjoy a Robot Master recognizing the absurdity of their attacks every once in a while!

Proto Man proto-man
"Breaking apart in this Prototype... I suppose it's only poetic..."
A little more multifaceted than most of the more one-dimensional writing of mine, it's a little weird no one's draw a connection to Proto Man and the Prototype a little earlier. This is the only line in the entire game that actually references the tenative fact the game takes place in a digital space, so I consider it a good reminder to the player every so often, especially with how often one would see Proto Man in this game.

Proto Man DS proto-man-ds
"Copying a prototype model may have been a bad idea..."
In contrast to the more thoughtful Proto Man, this line is just illustrating this nefarious doppelganger's stupid oversight; it takes about more than 6 seconds of thought to realize copying a poorly-functioning robot is sort of an awful battle plan.

King
"Robot...Do you realize you're simply a pawn for the humans?"
It works for his revolutionist characterization, acknowledges the role between the player character and their robots, and most of all squeezes a stupid chess pun in there. It fills all my boxes!

Cut Man cut-man
"I guess I wasn't sharp enough! Haha! ....ow."
Cut Man's schtick is being annoyingly punful in literally each and every one of his lines, and even when he's in pain he's still spouting puns. I like how soft the ow should come out in reading, and it's fun doing your best to convey an universal emotional tone to everyone where every line is read, not heard.

Of course, all the above lines actually freaking suck in comparison to the all-time best defeat quote in this entire game; I often consider taking it out, because it's so leagues beyond any writing produced here, and in the entire English language, that I fear anyone who reads it will simply not be able to enjoy anything in their lives ever again. Truth be told, I often lay awake late in the night, considering and reconsidering the mind-altering philosophical implications that this line brings up. And that line is

peng
"Pepepepe…"

Sonic Man's an aquatic-based robot, fit with scuba gear and a little King Triton Trident, so swift is an odd choice. Why go with that specifically? Granted, within the PC robot group, Wave Man (PC) and Shark Man already automatically have to take that typing, so I understand it was getting a little repetitive anyhow....
