Let me pull up the description of a random Overdrive ability for you real quick, Hightower. Also, it's not JUST "EX", it's "Time Overdrive EX".

This ability's power is directly proportionate to the amount of life energy the user has lost, making it most effective when used in critical condition."

Now, you could probably go "oh but Parallel 1 used it BEFORE the spellcard came into effect", to which I say, look at the SECOND bolded line. For reference's sake, Parallel Aeon 1 was at half health. Furthermore, as a Time Overdrive EX is three times stronger than a normal one, well do the math.
